8 February 2015 Update

Monday we woke up to a fresh blanket of snow, the largest yet of our time here in Lausanne.  Melissa took a few photos on her way to work and told me to get out of bed and head outside before it melts.  I grabbed the camera and decided to take a long walk through the city and up to the nature reserve to enjoy the snow.  It was a day I had to step back and pinch myself that I live in such an incredibly beautiful place.  I put some of the photo’s I took in an album below

Continuing with the exceptional weather, on Thursday Melissa told me her group mate, who commutes across the lake everyday, was having trouble getting into work because the ferries stopped running due to high wind.  I thought maybe the weather would give me some awesome photos twice in the same week, so again I grabbed the camera and took a walk.  Down to the lake this time.   It was a very cold and windy day, but unfortunately it was blowing from Switzerland toward France.  The big waves were on the other side of the lake.  I took a few pictures but they weren’t as impressive as I was hoping for.

Also this week Melissa finished up her two week intensive French course, but she still feels like she could improve.  We were contacted by the current tenant of the new apartment we almost have.  He is trying to sell us his couch and light fixtures (Its the custom here that apartments don’t come with light fixtures).  If we could just sign the contract we will probably take him up on the offer, we would then at least have something to sleep on.  We also made a trip to Germany on Saturday, but I wrote about that in the previous post.

  1. Hello Phil and Melissa!! Is Picture #8, a picture of a snow plow? 🙂
I eagerly read your posts and enjoy looking at the pictures. Your writing and relating of your experiences (good and difficult) are wonderful. Can’t help but become a better person when you experience another culture.
May you both have a wonderful week ahead!

    1. Yep that’s a snow plow, they’re a little funny looking over here, its hard to tell but they are much smaller like the size of car. Yes the culture change and being a foreigner has been eye-opening. I never thought about it before, but it must be a little similar to how it was and is now for people immigrating into the United States.
